Strange Qwarq is a 1-person game development studio making unusual and original video games, as well as providing technical support to other indie devs.
I've had a life-long love for video games and have been involved with game development in some capacity since 2008. While I've done a bit of professional development, most of my work is focused on the independent scene. I've been making small games by myself for many years, but with Project RyME, I wanted to present my work in a more professional capacity, so Strange Qwarq was founded.
You can find my personal feeds and activities elsewhere on the internet:
- Acid Spinner - A short horror game about cleaning dishes in a restaurant using an odd device called an "Acid Spinner" which can cause psychological harm to its users.
- Swab - A slow, meditative game where you clean dirty and grimy paintings. Has a slight horror element as well.
- Watmos Technologies Inc. - A simple browser puzzle game in the same vein as Project RyME. In fact, Watmos was the starting point for Project RyME.
BELOW HEAVEN is an upcoming RPG by Lunar Capital Studios. Strange Qwarq is providing technical support by implementing custom functionality to the RPG Maker MZ game engine.
Some of the custom functionality includes:
- Player-remappable controls
- Arbitrarily long character animations with more granular control
- Custom UI for equipment, bestiary and more
- A fully custom real-time grid-based battle system
- A new menu screen for remapping controls
- Icons for most common gamepad and keyboard inputs
- Multiple gamepad button sets to match various gamepad layouts
- New escape sequences for text boxes to allow displaying appropriate button icons based on the control mapping
- Support for multiple gamepads, with an option to choose the primary gamepad
- Automatic saving of control mappings
These plugins are an adaptation of the custom input functionality for BELOW HEAVEN and is available for free on itch.io:
The custom-made Crowd Control module for the game Quest 64 analyzes and manipulates values in memory to allow livestream viewers to trigger effects like growing/shrinking the main character, changing character stats and flipping the camera upside-down.
The download, as well as installation instructions, is available on github.
